During Toby’s visit to China, she investigated special education and learning disabilities in four major cities; Beijing, Xian, Guilin, and Shanghai. In Beijing, she had the opportunity to interview two knowledgeable teachers and several students. In Xian, she interviewed two young mothers with elementary school-age daughters, who expressed their longing for a change of the testing procedures in their educational system. Toby had the opportunity to present at an educational symposium in Guilin, China in May. Her research, “Creating Equal Access to Education for College-Bound Students with Learning Disabilities,” was presented as a poster at Normal University. Further, this work was featured at the Pepperdine University Annual Symposium in June.
